    Product/System Development: Graduate Software Engineers – Dunfermline, Scotland

    We are looking for enthusiastic graduates to join our specialist software engineering team. You’ll be helping shape future innovations in areas ranging from medical instruments to safety critical software in industrial control. Also you may be developing new mobile apps, radar guidance, network QOS applications and payment management systems – all challenging projects with opportunities to engage in every aspect of software development. • A mathematical, scientific, engineering or computer science degree
    • Software development experience
    • Working knowledge of modern programming languages e.g. C++, C, C#, Java

    Experience in one or of these disciplines would be advantageous:-

    • OO design and development
    • Mobile app design – iOS, Android

    • Team player
    • Able to work to deadlines

    Career progression

    • Graduate engineers start consolidating their skills in the realisation phase of a development project. While the requirements, architecture and high-level design are already completed, there is still a lot to learn about detailed design, testing, code patterns and standards, processes, tools etc. while developing and implementing code.
    • With good progress, engineers go on to help specify user/system interfaces, assist in producing detailed design documents using required standards, methods and tools and work on translating a system design into a software design for various applications.
    • As their experience builds, engineers can progress into the detailed definition phase where architecture and high-level design take place. At this level, engineers need to have knowledge of standard architecture and design patterns based on experience plus exposure to Bitwise approaches. This does not stifle creativity but compliance is necessary where there are similar precedents. Some projects will, of course, be breaking completely new ground and this requires wider knowledge and skills – providing real opportunity to use creative skills.
    • Above this level, there are two potential progression paths: technical management (project lead, project manager, programme manager) and project consulting.
    • Broadening engineering experience from the project phases includes developing the following skills:
      • Customer facing and general communication skills (written and oral)
      • Ability to mentor and train
      • Sufficient experience to take the distinct step and become a technical lead
      • Handle complete project management
